I was recruited by Hill McGlynn's Middle East operation with a view to using my knowledge of the construction and surveying industries to open a new line of business in the GCC, focussing on the Asset Management market. As this was an area in which Hill McGlynn had no previous presence I was tasked with building a business from a standing start.
My career with Hays focused on the supply of freelance staff to the surveying industry. Upon starting with the company I managed the Freelance and Interim Building Surveying desk for Hays C&P in Edinburgh. After my promotion to Senior Consultant in January 2008, I took over our Quantity Surveying business, which allowed me to further my knowledge of the surveying market whilst developing relationships with new clients. In addition, I was given managerial responsibility, playing a strong part in the development of newer members of staff.
After my initial six months working in a city branch I was offered a transfer to Edinburgh airport, as part of a program developed to place high sales performers into the biggest sales environment. This gave me the opportunity to learn more about the retail side of the business, whilst achieving sales figures that consistently placed me in the top 10 employees in Scotland.
